Naimisharanya (also spelled Naimisaranya, and sometimes called Neemsar) is a forest pilgrimage town in Sitapur district, Uttar Pradesh, on the banks of the Gomti river. Hindu tradition holds that 88,000 rishis once gathered here for a long yajna, during which the sage Suta Goswami narrated the Puranas — including the Bhagavata Purana — making it one of the most significant sites for the scriptural tradition itself.
The name is linked to the "Nemi" (rim) of Lord Vishnu's discus, said to have fallen and formed a wheel-shaped depression here — now the sacred Chakra Tirtha at the centre of the town. Nearby, the Lalita Devi Temple is counted among the 51 Shakti Peethas, and the riverbed is known for Gomti Chakra — small, naturally spiral-shaped stones considered sacred and used in worship.

Best Time to Visit Naimisharanya
October to March is the most comfortable time to visit, with cool weather suited to visiting Chakra Tirtha and the Lalita Devi Temple on foot. April to June gets very hot, and July to September is the monsoon.
Major fairs and gatherings are held here around Kartik Purnima and other significant dates in the Hindu calendar, drawing larger crowds than a typical weekday visit.
