84 Ghats Lit with a Million Diyas — Dev Diwali 2026
Every one of Varanasi's 84 ghats is lined with oil lamps on Dev Diwali night, turning the riverfront gold from Assi Ghat to Raj Ghat. The only way to take in every ghat at once is from the middle of the Ganga, on a boat.
Why All 84 Ghats, and Why It Matters
Dev Deepawali — the "Diwali of the Gods" — falls on Kartik Purnima, fifteen days after the main Diwali festival. Legend holds that this is the night the gods themselves descend to Varanasi to bathe in the Ganga and celebrate Lord Shiva's victory over the demon Tripurasura. In response, every ghat along the river is lined with thousands of oil lamps.
From street level, you can only ever see the one or two ghats near you — the crowd and the curve of the riverbank block the rest. From a boat in the middle of the Ganga, the view opens up: ghat after ghat glowing gold, stretching further than you can see from any single point on land.

Yes — every ghat along the Varanasi riverfront is lined with oil lamps on Dev Deepawali night, from Assi Ghat to Raj Ghat.
Not really — the curve of the riverbank and the crowds mean you can only see a ghat or two clearly from any single point on land. A boat ride down the middle of the Ganga is the only way to see the full stretch.
Around 3 to 3.5 hours, covering the laser show, fire show and live Ganga Aarti alongside the illuminated ghats.
All boat ticket bookings are strictly non-refundable, under any circumstances, given how high-demand the night is in Varanasi.
